The Government of Israel conducted a successful test of the anti ballistic missile “Arrow-2” system successfully destroying a test ballistic missile designed to simulate a Shahab-3 ballistic missile, the Shahab-3 ballistic missile is deployed by the Iranian armed forces.
The test today is the latest successful test of the system that in the past had shown setbacks but now seems to be moving ahead as a viable air defense system, today’s test of the Arrow-2 missile defense system took place at the Palmahim Base and was witnessed by Israel’s Minister of Defense Ehud Barak.
As part of today’s test of the Arrow-2 missile defense system testing was done using an new more advanced version of the Green Pine Radar system that is a more advanced version then previously has been tested. Today’s test was conducted jointly alongside the IAF “Israel Air Force” and the United States Missile Defense Agency.
With the current decision by the Pentagon to cut elements of spending on missile defense there is no word yet on how this will affect the joint effort between the United States and and the State of Israel on the development of the Arrow and Arrow-2 missile defense system.
