Interceptor Shield Report

As tensions continue to simmer the North Korean Government confirmed on Tuesday it intended to conduct a launch of a rocket to place a communications satellite into orbit. Current monitoring of the site indicates that preparation for the planed test is continuing and has not slowed and that a launch could come by early march. News sources in South Korea are reporting that a top placed South Korean official has stated that South Korean Intelligence has located what appears to be an underground fueling station at the Rocket test site that the North Recently finished building and that the North Korean Government can now conduct fueling of long range liquid fueled rockets with little activity being spotted by satellites.
The North has been moving more testing equipment and has now started testing radars in preparations for the launch of the rocket.
The South Korean Government has urged the North Korean Government not to follow through with the planned launch and that they would view any rocket test a missile test and violation of UN resolutions.

The Unite States Navy on February 13th, 2009 conducted the 126th launch of a Trident II Fleet ballistic missile. The Trident II was launched from the USS Alabama “SSBN 731” an Ohio Class Ballistic Missile submarine. The Test took place in the Pacific Ocean. The test launch of the Trident II was certifying the completion of dry-dock overhaul work that had been done on the USS Alabama to convert the sub from Trident I C4 Configuration to Trident II D5 Configuration and ensuring the Submarines readiness for operational deployment with the new system onboard.

The Trident II that was fired had been converted to a test missile configuration by Lockheed Martin and contained range safety devices and flight telemetry instrumentation to record data from the test.

Missile Defense Vitally Needed

Interceptor Shield Report

On February 2nd Iran launched their first domestically built Satellite into orbit demonstrating their dramatic advance in rocket and missile technology. Now North Korea is preparing to launch their longest range missile that they claim is a rocket for conducting a peaceful space launch of a satellite into orbit in an attempt to mirror Iran’s success.

The Facts

North Korea has stalled on Nuclear Disarmament and repeatedly pulled away from agreements on Nuclear disarmament while they developed their nuclear weapon program. The North has conducted a test of a nuclear weapon when talks where ongoing and launched a previous failed test of their long range Taepodong-2 ICBM and are striving to perfect and expand their long range missiles so they have the ability to equip them with a warhead.

Iran has been cooperating with North Korea on Missile development and any advances in missile and rocket development will filter back to the North for their missile programs. Unlike North Korea the government of Iran has not conducted a test of a nuclear weapons but it has conducted numerous test of short and medium range ballistic missile and has an advanced and expanding nuclear program and may be relying on the North Korean government to do their testing for them and are waiting for the time when their programs are advanced enough that they can conduct a rapid breakout and deployment of their own Nuclear weapons program.

Both North Koreas and Iran’s missile and nuclear programs pose a risk to not only regional security of our allies abroad but also affect our national Security here in the United States.

The United States currently has a basic operational missile defense program deployed to protect our populations and we have been cooperating with our allies on developing systems overseas to protect our allies.

We must continue to develop and expand on these systems to ensure reliability and functionality of systems. The threat of ballistic missile proliferation has not decreased and needs to be faced.

Currently the Whitehouse is looking to decrease funding on missile defense even though over the past eight years the program has demonstrated its growing success and ability as new systems are deployed and integrated into the system.

Call your Senator or Congressman and tell them to not reduce funding to missile defense.

North Korea Preparing New Long Range Missile Test

Recently released information by the South Korean government indicates that it appears that containers that seem to contain missile parts have left manufacturing sites and are being transported by train to the North Korean missile test site on the west coast of North Korea. Once they reach the site they will likely be assembled for a test in the next few months.

If North Korea does conduct a test of their long range Taepodong-2 missile it will be the first test of the North’s long range ICBM program since the last test of their indigenously built long range ICBM ended in failure back in July 2006 when the missile failed shortly after takeoff.

The testing of the North’s long range ICBM will only raise tension further on the divided Korean Peninsula, last week North Korea tore up and declared past agreements no longer in place including past agreements with the South Korean government on non aggression declaring the agreements as being no longer valid.
