Interceptor Shield Report

September 1, 2007
The Russian Strategic Missile Force today announced they will continue testing of the Topol-M land based missile systems and of the Bulava sea based missile systems through out the rest of this year. Combat train training of units in handling and deployment of the new missile systems and testing of new warhead designs for the systems will also continue in preparation for activation of a second missile battalion to active status.
In September, October and December of 2006 the new Russian Bulava missile encountered critical errors during test launches. The testing that is carried out for the remainder of this year by the Russian Strategic Missile Force will most probably focus on trying to eliminate the problems that caused the three previous failed Bulava test launches.
