Russia Deploying New Missile Defense Systems

The Government of Russia on August 7, 2007 displayed the new Air Defense Systems of the S-400 and S-500 missile systems on televsion that are capable of distroying incoming medium range ballistic missiles and aircraft but not long range intercontinental ballistic missles. These new systems will be deployed around the moscow area to provide better air defense of the air space of the capital and will later be expanded as more systems are deployed to provide more coverage of the county. The deployment of these new air defense missile systems comes as Russia continues its move to modernize many of its nations defense abilities.
