Iran’s missile push

Interceptor Shield Report

Since Friday March 31 Iran during its war games has been releasing videos of new defense systems it claims to have developed. On March 31 Iran tested a Fajr-3 missile it stated it could evade radar, the missile was also reportedly as being able to be equipped with multiple warheads, This test was soon followed with a test of a new high speed underwater torpedo.

Iran claims to have developed these technologies by itself, but since Iran has not released more info about these systems it cannot be proven. Russia a few years back had been working on a similar type torpedo like Iran tested over the weekend, whether Iran is using plans of this system Russia was working or have developed a new system using the idea is not known.

Today Iran conducted a third test for a missile it designated an “ultra-horizon” weapon and the new missile could be equipped on any of its Helicopters and planes.

Whether Iran has developed this technology or bought it, it show’s Iran is capable of acquiring these technologies, If they bought the technology their local research has not reached the skill level where they can develop more advanced systems. But if it is indeed true that they have developed the technology indigenously it shows Iran has a growing pool of skilled missile engineers, and that they are overcoming obstacles in their missile systems. The next step would be for Iran like the Russians in the cold war days to try and develop a orbital satellite launch vehicle, if they could develop this type of system Iran would then have the knowledge to develop a long range missile and be able to target parts of the US.

Air borne laser and MDA Goal’s

Interceptor Shield Report

In the last few months there has been a lot of talk in the media about rumors that the Missile Defense Agency “MDA” was thinking about scraping the ABL system and did not have confidence in the system. But last month it was stated the ABL program would continue. We at IS Report contacted the MDA about the Air borne laser and its decision on the ABL system, We have recently received a reply back stating that the Air Borne Laser remains a central viable component of the United States missile defense program. The only thing that has changed in the Air borne laser program was the delaying of the second ABL plane effort until fiscal year 2008.

Starting this summer the MDA plans to begin installation and testing of two illuminator lasers TILL (Tracking Illuminator Laser) and BILL (Beacon Illuminator) into the ABL aircraft. The installation of these systems will be followed by an in-flight atmospheric compensation test with the TILL tracking and BILL systems.

In 2007 the MDA will begin installation of the Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser (COIL) into the ABL.

Once these goals have been completed around 2007 should culminate in a live fire test of the ABL against a test missile in 2008.
